Modeling adhesive and abrasive wear phenomena in fretting interfaces: A multiphysics approach coupling friction energy, third body and contact oxygenation concepts

چکیده

The purpose of this research work is to develop an extended friction-energy Wear approach taking into account the presence debris layer and adhesive wear by simulating interfacial di-oxygen partial pressure using Advection-Dispersion-Reaction approach. This multiphysics modeling estimates locally if fretted interface running under or abrasive condition. For each situation, a specific energy coefficient considered which finally allows simulation composite adhesive-abrasive (W-shape) fretting scar. A good correlation observed with former Ti-6Al-4V cylinder-on-flat experiments. model also predicts transition from pure abrasive-adhesive response, W-shape U-shape scar profiles for first time provides reliable estimations maximum depth extension.

Modelling Friction and Abrasive Wear of Elastomers

In order to properly model the friction and wear of elastomer materials, it is essential to understand some specific mechanical and tribological features. Mechanical characteristics of elastomer materials are different from those of metals and other relatively hard materials. Elastomers can bear large deformations, the stress-strain curves are non-linear, time and temperature dependent. When th...

Application of an energy wear approach to quantify fretting contact durability: Introduction of a wear energy capacity concept

A friction energy formalism is considered and adapted to formalize the fretting wear responses of adhesive wear and non-adhesive wear interfaces. It is shown that for non-adhesive wear tribocouples like hard coatings (TiN, TiC, etc.) the wear kinetics can be formalized using the accumulated friction dissipated energy. By contrast, adhesive wear contacts involving aluminium and titanium alloys d...

Numerical Modeling of Fretting Wear

In this paper, a review of some techniques proposed in the literature for modelling fretting wear is presented. Fretting wear occurs when surfaces are degraded and materials are removed due to a small relative oscillatory motion between two contact surfaces. Due to the continuous change in the shape of a structure during its lifetime, the design of engineering components subjected to fretting w...

Multilingual Interfaces for Parallel Coupling in Multiphysics and Multiscale Systems

Multiphysics and multiscale simulation systems are emerging as a new grand challenge in computational science, largely because of increased computing power provided by the distributed-memory parallel programming model on commodity clusters. These systems often present a parallel coupling problem in their intercomponent data exchanges. Another potential problem in these coupled systems is langua...
